  Coach Nick receives 900 Easton Victory Club Award 

   DECEMBER 2009  

Coach Nick Mazza was born and raised in Easton, Pennsylvania.  After graduation, Coach Nick joined the US Marine Corps and served in Vietnam during the worst years of the war.  Coach Nick later married his wife Carmen and raised his daughters, Nicole and Chrissy before moving to Georgia in 1977, Coach Nick jumped back into his love for softball by coaching his older daughter in her initial fastpitch years.  Going forward, Coach Nick became a leader and activist in the Georgia Fastpitch community.  While softball in Georgia was dominated by Slowpitch both in High Schools and Parks & Recreation, Coach Nick was Head Coaching Fastpitch teams in Dekalb County.  At the beginning, there were only 8 traveling Fastpitch teams in all of Georgia.  They formed the DGSA (Dekalb Girls Softball Association) later to be named the METRO. 

After successfully building a Fastpitch program in Dekalb County, Coach Nick was recruited by Georgia Tech to assist in building their newly formed Fastpitch program.  Initially working as an assistant coach at GT, Coach Nick was elevated to Head Coach and began Georgia Tech's introduction to the nation's Fastpitch Collegiate competition.  Soon after leaving Georgia Tech, Coach Nick jumped back into coaching some Fastpitch travel teams such as South Atlantic powerhouses Tucker Elite and the Cobb County Raiders. Coach Nick also coached the McEachern High School & Whitefield Academy fastpitch teams.  Currently Coach Nick is heading the 16A Georgia Crush team.  Coach Nick also serves as the Fastpitch Director for Powder Springs Softball at Wild Horse Creek Park and acts as an Advisor to other Fastpitch Organizations.

Coach Nick also was a successful Fastpitch and Slowpitch player & coach while living in Pennsylvania before 1977. Coach Nick was a sling-shot pitcher and third baseman as a fastpitch player.  But since moving to Georgia, he has coached Men’s Slowpitch teams, Women's Fastpitch teams, Youth & High School Fastpitch teams and of course Collegiate level teams.  Coach Nick began the Fall of 2010 with an overall record of over 900 victories.   

Coach Nick served 3 years on the Board of Directors for the NFCA (National Fastpitch Coaches Association).  Recently, the NFCA and Easton Sports presented Coach Nick with the ‘Victory Club Award’ for achieving over 900 wins in his Head Coaching career.  Coach Nick is a 4 Star Master Coach with the NFCC and Gold Level Coach with the ASA and ACE certified.

Coach Nick has always been active in promoting and marketing High School Student Athletes to College programs.  2003 began Coach Nick's professional commitment to recruit, market, and manage the High School talent directly and personally with the nation's College Coaches.  Having worked as a full-time professional college scout in recruiting Student-Athletes for a national recruiting firm, Coach Nick now is fully engaged in focusing on Fastpitch Athletes only.  Coach Nick created and directs all operations of GeorgiaScout Fastpitch Services to provide affordable professional skills training and effective marketing to promote college recruits who meet the GeorgiaScout criteria.  Coach Nick is the Organization Director of the ever expanding Georgia Crush Travel Team program that includes teams of 12U, 14U, 16U, 18U.

National recognition, experience, credibility, and knowledge provide Coach Nick with an inside track as to what College's are looking for to strengthen their programs.  As a Fastpitch Camp Clinician, Coach Nick teaches both the beginning fundamentals and also the advanced techniques of all the fastpitch skills, both in group and private.

It has been said that Coach Nick is a Teacher first and a Coach second.  Maybe that comes from his passion for teaching players the technical and advanced skills of today's successful athletes.
